Mark your calendars! ANTHC will be participating in the Great Alaska ShakeOut drill on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022. The ShakeOut is a yearly event where millions participate worldwide in earthquake drills and preparedness at work, school or home. This is also a good time to brush up on our readiness by reviewing ANTHC Emergency Plans.
Practicing earthquake drills and preparedness is important as Alaska is located in the most seismically active state in the United States. The state is home to three of the seven largest earthquakes in the 20th century, including the 9.2 magnitude 1964 Good Friday Earthquake and the more recent 7.1 earthquake on Nov. 30, 2018.
The day of the drill, ANTHC will use several methods to communicate with staff, including testing of the Emergency Alert Notification system.
Continue to check the HUB (anthcstaff.org) for daily news and safety tips this week.
Staff can also participate in the exercise and be entered into a drawing to win fun prizes! There are two
ways to be entered into the drawing:
