ANMC staff are required to wear face shields or goggles in clinical settings: new prescription eyewear process
February 14th, 2022 by Fiona BrosnanAll ANMC staff are required to wear face shields or goggles to lower COVID-19 exposure risk while in a clinical setting. The CDC continues to recommend the use of eye protection for health care workers serving populations with high community COVID-19 spread. Anchorage and our surrounding communities continue to fall into this category.
All ANMC staff need to wear OSHA-approved eye protection whenever performing direct patient care, regardless of a patient’s COVID-19 status and continue to follow the PPE recommendations outlined in our PPE Hazard Assessment for COVID-19 for the appropriate PPE for patient care situations.
Supervisors must approve any PPE brought into the workplace by employees prior to use, to ensure that it meets OSHA requirements and protects staff against the intended job hazard. If the supervisor has questions, please reach out to ANMC Safety.
Please follow the approved ANTHC PPE procedure and process for obtaining prescription eye protection. The form can be found on the Safety SharePoint page.
Our guidelines are based on following best practice OSHA recommendations regarding eye protection.
