The ANTHC Security team is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our staff and patients on campus. Should you ever feel unsafe or have security concerns, do not hesitate to seek their assistance.
See Something, Do Something: Reporting Suspicious Behavior:
Avoid direct confrontation with individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior. Instead, promptly contact ANTHC Security using the following methods:
- Dial extension 52915 from any work phone.
- Save ANTHC Security’s phone number 907-729-2915 in your mobile phone for easy and quick access.
- Consider programming the Anchorage Police Department’s non-emergency number 907-786-8900 as well.
- In emergency situations, call 911 immediately.
- Look for blue light emergency phone stations in parking lots for quick access to assistance.
Incident Reporting and Notification:
When safe to do so submit an incident report and inform your supervisor of any security related incidents. You can report any incidents and accidents by going to The Hub and finding the Incident/Accident icon under shortcuts.
Reporting such occurrences including those involving patients helps identify areas that require heightened monitoring.
Additional personal safety tips for campus and town security:
- Secure your belongings: Always keep your personal items, such as laptops, phones, wallets and purses, in a secure place. Use lockers or locked drawers whenever possible. Keep items out of sight when storing them inside your vehicle.
- Maintain awareness: Stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, avoiding distractions like phone use or wearing headphones while walking.
- Access control: Do not hold doors open for individuals without proper badge access.
- Nighttime safety: Exercise caution when walking in dimly lit areas. Opt for well-lit paths and walkways when possible, especially after dark and in Alaska’s winter months.
- Familiarize yourself: Get acquainted with campus buildings and access an updated campus map for reference. You can find the most up to date campus maps on The Hub, here: https://anthcstaff.org/alaska-native-health-campus-maps/.
- Direct routes: Take the most direct paths and avoid areas with limited visibility or cover.
- Buddy system: Whenever feasible, avoid walking alone. Travel to and from parking areas with a buddy for added security.
- Readiness: Hold your keys ready while walking to your vehicle and maintain a confident, steady pace.
- Training opportunities: Consider participating in ANTHC-sponsored classes for situational awareness and CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program. Details can be found in HealthStream.
- Emergency preparedness: Always be aware of nearby emergency exits and escape routes.
- Lock Doors and Windows: Ensure that all office doors and windows are locked when leaving your workspace, even if only for a short period.
- Security Assistance: If you need an escort to your vehicle or another part of the campus, do not hesitate to contact our security team. They are here to help.
