Emergency Services Expansion update – Nov. 22, 2024

Ongoing demolition activities for the ESE project are expected to wrap up this week!

Construction Update:
Construction crews are nearly through with brick, footing and octagon demolition! As crews finish the last bit of this demolition work, it will continue to create noise and vibrations.

The temporary shoring wall along the east margin of hospital has begun and excavation for the new building tower footprint is underway.

For Phase 1B, which will add an additional 18 emergency treatment rooms in March 2025, interior framing is complete; rough-in continues for mechanical, electrical, and sprinkler; drywall installation and taping are ongoing; and floor preparation has begun. Below is a rendering of what the new treatment rooms will look like.

Reminder: Temporary Emergency Services Department now open
As construction continues to happen elsewhere in the hospital, the Temporary Emergency Services Department (ESD) opened on Sept. 7. Patients should present to the Temporary ESD, located on the southeast side of the hospital.

Access to the Temporary ESD is from the Diplomacy Drive entrance. The Tudor Centre entrance is for emergency vehicle access only. The former Emergency Room entrance is closed for construction.

Parking Update:
Most of the ANMC hospital east parking lot is fenced off for construction activities. Day parking is no longer available in the ANMC hospital east lot, except for limited ADA accessible parking. The remainder of available parking in this area is reserved for ESD patients.

Staff are not permitted to park in this area

Employees who regularly park in designated patient parking areas will be ticketed and their supervisor will be notified – resulting in the possibility of corrective action.

Additional parking locations include: COB Overflow Lot, East Inuit Lot, ANMC Patient Housing Parking Garage (north of the hospital), Denali Parking Garage (east of the hospital), and Flattop Mountain Parking Garage (south of the hospital). There is a marked pedestrian path from the Denali Parking Garage for all foot traffic between the garage and the ANMC hospital.
